Darkness

Darkness has come

The silver moon following

Cats sneak quietly into the alleyways

The barn owl hoots as he sights a fieldmouse

A fox wanders into a pool of orange light

Gargoyles scream!

Shadows move

Stairs creak

Candles flicker

Doors slam!

Trees sway in the breeze

Bats flutter

                                    Shapes black and still

Thieves steal.

The town is quiet

All is still

The moon drops lower

And lower

And lower

A thin beam of light shines down the street…

Dawn is here!

Floating around

Floating around

Without a sound

Flying through the night.

They have no idea what could be outside

They think all the world is kind.

But when I strike

There will be a fright

A chill going up their spine.

And might I just add

That I am free

For all of eternity

So if you ever feel a chill up your spine

Just remember this little poem of mine.

Solitude

I am alone

A long way from home

I’m friendless here

It’s dark and quiet and very dull

You can’t even hear the seagulls through the silent night

I’m very unhappy with my life

Walking through the country at night

With no light.

Yesterday it was European Day and we had some croissants and chocolate spread and hot chocolate. It was Yummy!!

After lunch Malwinka’s  Mum and Dad came to tell us some Polish and showed us some pictures and then some Polish food. I didn’t like the mushrooms but I liked the bread sticks. I had a lovely day yesterday. It was the best day ever.

In nursery we have been studying he Emperor Penguin and life in Antarctica .

“Penguins live in the South Pole and it’s really cold.  Mummy’s in the ocean and daddy keeps the baby penguin in the egg from getting cold.  Daddy puts it under his tummy on his feet to keep it really warm.  All the daddies are in a huddle ‘cos they need to be warm.  The egg hatch and a baby penguin comes out and the mummy says, ‘I’m back with fish for the baby.’  The mummy ‘sicks’ it out of her mouth.  Daddy goes to the ocean to get some fish because he hasn’t had food because he’s looking after the egg and he’s so hungry.”

Ben Campbell December 2008

“Penguins swim in the sea in the South Pole, in Antarctica .  That’s at the bottom of the world.  Daddy penguin looks after the egg and mummy goes to the sea.  She wants to get some food.  Daddy minds the egg so it doesn’t get cold.  Daddy has feathers and some fat so he’s warm and he goes in the big huddle to keep warm.  He stays there for ever and he keeps the egg on his feet and under his tummy to keep it nice and warm.  It hatches and daddy goes off to the sea and mummy minds the baby.  She vomits fish into the baby’s mouth to feed the baby.”

Conor O’Neill December 2008

“Penguins are quite nice ‘cos they’re so soft with all the feathers.  They live in the icy place in Antarctica .  They go in the water and get fish and play.  Mummy lays an egg and she rolls it to daddy ‘cos daddy keeps it very warm on his feet and in his feathers and mummy goes to have a swim and get some fish.  Daddy stands in a circle in a huddle ‘cos you get cold and you get in and then you get warm and you come out again.  The egg hatches ‘Peep, peep.’  Mummy comes out and says, ‘Eeee.’  That says, ‘Hello’.  Mummy gives the baby food from the sea.  She sicks the fish into the baby’s mouth and daddy goes to the sea to get some more fish ‘cos his tummy’s rumbling because he didn’t have any food to eat for a long time.  I saw a penguin and it hugged me.  He wished I was his friend and I was his friend”

Eunan O’Hare December 2008

“Penguins live in Antarctica .  It’s very cold and icy.  Daddy looks after the egg and mummy goes fishing to get some fish.  Daddy warms the egg up under his tummy.  He doesn’t have any food.  The daddies stand in the huddle because it’s very cold.  The ones in the outside are very cold and the ones in the inside are very warm.  The ones on the outside go to the inside to keep warm.  The egg cracks and the wee baby chick comes out and daddy gives it special food from his tummy.  Mummy comes back and she does this, ‘Yuck’ into the baby’s mouth and the baby says, ‘Yum, yum.’  That’s yucky, yucky.  “

Ethan Fee December 2008

“Penguins live in Antarctica .  They slide on their tummies on the ice when they’re tired and they can swim in the sea ‘cos they eat fish.  Mummy penguin rolls the egg to daddy penguin’s feet ‘cos it needs to keep warm.  ‘Him’ has big feet and him has special milk that he pulls out of his big throat to feed the baby.  ‘Him’ keeps the egg very nice and warm with his feathers.  He keeps it warm for days and days and days.  He has no breakfast and no supper.  It hatches and daddy goes off to the sea and eats lots of fish.  Mummy penguin comes from the sea and finds the baby and she ‘sicks’ the fish out of her mouth into the baby’s mouth and the baby says, ‘Mmmm.’

Birds

Robins like people a lot. They are friendly to people but not to other birds. They would eat cheese, chopped nuts and fruit cake. The robin would have 5 or 6 eggs. They are about 10 centimetres long.

The blackbird is black. It has a bright yellow beak. It lives in gardens and it sings a lovely song. It builds its nests in hedges, bushes and trees. The mummy blackbird is brown. It eats worms, insects, fruit and berries.

A thrush has a cream tummy with brown speckles. It lives in most parts of the world. It eats worms, berries, fruit, seeds and snails. The thrush gets the snail out of its shell by throwing it against a wall and then pulling the snail out.
