A Tradition of Excellence

St Joseph's Primary School, Carryduff.

St Joseph's began as a little three classroom school in January 1955 with Mr John McNamee as its first Principal. Fifty years later and our enrolment has increased considerably from forty-five pupils to just over five hundred boys and girls.
We are situated behind the Ivanhoe Hotel on the Saintfield Road heading towards Carryduff from Belfast. Nearby is our Church, The Immaculate Heart of Mary, newly built and a constant source of pride for all those in our Parish.
At St Joseph's we all work together for the benefit of our children. Every individual works towards the continued improvement and development of the school in order to provide the best possible all round education for the children you entrust to us.

We aim to give your child the best possible start to their educational career. We provide a warm, secure and stimulating environment. Children feel valued and respected and in turn are taught to value and respect themselves and others.
The Governors of the school have worked tirelessly in their efforts to provide a high quality team of people who have the responsibility to care for and educate your child. Working alongside the Principal, they have appointed staff to meet the needs of the school and the community it serves.

The teaching staff are highly motivated and professional in their duties to the children. They are supported in school by a team of dedicated Classroom Assistants. The good work is continued through lunchtime by the efforts of the midday supervisors who liaise closely with staff for the benefit of the children.

An essential element to the school's continuing success is the support it receives from parents. Through mutual trust and respect, the staff, governors and parents work closely together.
The School Building
The school comprises of a large, multipurpose hall with a fully equipped canteen to the rear. There are twenty-eight classrooms and a nursery unit. In the main building there is a dedicated computer suite in addition to the provision of computers in individual classrooms. In the Infant area the additional room offers space for small group and individual work in extension to the classrooms.
Our new school should be ready in 2010.
